So sad to hear of Treena’s passing. She was a wonderful colleague for many years at the Comcom. She was a person who found joy in everyday things…you knew as soon as she was in the building from her laughter! A wonderful mother to her children, she will be so missed by her whanau. Arohanui, Nicky.

Catriona Farac

I had the privilege of caring for Treena when she first became sick. She was warm, lovely and such a pleasure to speak to. Knowing that I am an Irish immigrant here Treena asked about me, where I came from and sent me a care package. I still treasure it to this day. You will be greatly missed Treena.

Cathy O’Sullivan

So very sad to hear of Treena’s untimely death. She was deeply valued by the Irish community here in NZ for her work at the embassy. Rest in love, Treena 💚

Adrian Hodgson

The Dali Llama was once asked “How can you tell a true master?” “Simply follow the laughter.”
And, that was Treena.
May your journey be full the of the beautiful joy you brought others.
Loads of love always
Adrian Hodgson.

Ciara Mitchell

Lots of love,

Is deachair a chreidiúint go bhfuil Treena imithe ar Sli na Fírinne. Táim ag scríobh an chomhbhrón seo le croí trom, agus d’aon gnó as Gaeilge mar thaithn an teanga agus an cultúir chomh mor sin léi . Bhí sé ina DNA mar a dearfa.
Nuair a thug Ambasadóir H.E. Peadar o Riain cuireadh dhom Gaeilge bunúsach a mhúineadh do bhfoireann na h-Ambasáide (díreach i ndiaidh Covid dianghlasáil) bhi Treena ina scoláire den scoth. Bhí sí díograiseach i gcónaí, gan aon eagla uirthi triail a bhaint as e a labhairt sa rang. Níos déanaí, bhain si fíor thaitneamh as an nGaeilge a úsáid chomh nádúrtha sin le blas Ciarraí, go raibh sé do creidte. Bhí bród uirthi agus muinín aici Fáilte Uí Cheallaigh a chur roimh chách, le miongháire ar a haghaidh.
Cé go bhfuilim ag scríobh an giota seo ó Éirinn 18k ciliméadar ó Johnsonville, beidh me i láthair i spiorad, chun slán a ghabháil le mo chara Treena (déarfainn ‘cara’ mar bhi an méid sin spóirt agam lei, i min macánta agus sonasach i gcónaí, cé go raibh scáth na h-ailse riamh i láthair agus coingearach di.
Comhbhrón o croí, Paul. (Agus na leanaí )
Is trua liom do chás.
Ar dheis De go raibh a h-anam dílis.
Loretta (i gCorcaigh)

Selina-Jane Lyons

I met Treena in 1987/88 when we were both at Otago Girls’. Treena, Mandy, Irene’e & I were part of the Nerd/Geeky Girls club, as I later found Treena called us. The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Treena, was her gorgeous hair, which fell in a long, dark curtain down her back. Next come memories of her quick wit & the laughter we all shared with her. At one stage Treena & I were writing a novel (I wonder if she remembers this) and we would do one chapter each, before passing it back to the other person to continue with…..I wonder what happened to it in the end? I also remember her fashion sense. Whilst I was buying clothes from Deka & Glassons, Treena bought gorgeous items from boutique clothing shops & always looked so put together & elegant. Our contact became more sparodic after High School, when Treena, Mandy & Kirsteen went off to Uni together, whilst Rene’e & I went out to work. We still managed to meet every few months at a cafe in town though. We touched base with each other again in the last 10 years via facebook, and I enjoyed hearing about what was happening in her life. I was so shocked & saddened to hear of her passing. Treena, thank you for the laughter & the memories, the world is most definitely quieter & emptier without you in it. Rest well, my friend. Selina-Jane.

Brigitte and I were devastated to learn the sad news from Mamari Stephens – we are currently in Berlin on a six week visit.
Treena was a wonderful secretary/administrator in the Classics Department at Victoria University before she moved to other work positions. Her laugh was indeed infectious. She was kind and patient to both students and staff members She was exceptionally kind and helpful to me when I was Chair of Classics. I was very sorry indeed that she decided to leave. She got on very well too with my wife Brigitte Schuette. We were at her wedding and so we send our deepest sympathy to Paul, Josh and Liam. We only knew Josh and Liam when they were very little, as we’d lost contact in recent years.
Rest in peace, dearest Treena.
