Kwong Yee Joe

Kwong Yee Joe, passed away at Wellington Hospital on the 7th of April 2024 at the age of 66.

Kwong is remembered by his wife, Mo Fong whom he has been married to for 35 years and his two children Simon and Nicola and Grandchild Oliver.

Born on the 21st of March 1958 in China in the Guangdong province he was the son of Father, Zhou Chang, and Mother, Huang Gui Rong, as well as brother to his 9 other siblings.

He made his way over to New Zealand with nothing but $250USD in 1985 with the help of his 2 older brothers who had also made the journey over earlier. During the late 80s and through the 90s Kwong worked in Wellington as a chef at Uncle Chang’s where he also met and married his wife before owning and operating Dynasty Restaurant together in Porirua successfully for 20 years eventually retiring at the end of  2019.

Kwong was a devoted Husband and Father. He enjoyed the simple things like a home cooked meal by his wife, dabbling in some home DIY, gardening and at the behest of his wife enjoyed a cheeky bit of KFC on the side with his two children. He had a knack for knowing how to fix anything and always had a solution to a problem if it was needed. He was patient, stoic and almost stubborn man who always thought of family first, even at the sacrifice for his own safety, he made sure his family ate first, before he indulged in his own wants. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00am on April 15th at the Lychgate Funeral home chapel in Johnsonville, Wellington. Messages to the family may be sent c/- Lychgate Funerals.
