Jennifer Mettrick

METTRICK, Jennifer Winifred, left us after a short illness, in Wellington Hospital on 30 Jun e2024. Dearly loved wife of Keith (d), mother of Carolyn & Tim, Neil & Marise, and Geoffrey & Catherine. Much loved daughter of Winifred Murphy and sister of Maureen and Judy (d). Beloved grandmother of Bridget & Dean, Joseph, Therese, Kyden, Francis, Oscar, Dominic, Raphael, Lucy and John, and great-grandmother of Coleman. A rosary will be prayed at Sacred Heart Cathedral (Hill St) on Thursday 4 July at 7pm, with a Requiem Mass on Friday 5 July at 10am followed by burial at Makara. Special thanks to the staff of Wellington Hospital Ward 5 and to everyone who has sent messages of support. I am the youngest of the “Quin Girls” – Gareth, Cushla and me. Our parents, Ted & Pat Quin, were in Samoa in the 30’s with your grandparents – Dad was Maureen’s godfather, and I was her junior bridesmaid in the 50’s. We all go back a long way, and the families have always been in some form of contact. Mum & Dad attended all three “Murphy girls'” weddings, and we girls later got together at the St. Mary’s College Reunion 20+ years ago. Cushla rang me to tell me of Jennifer’s death – please accept my heartfelt condolences to you all. It is never easy losing a mother, but she will be enjoying her eternal reward, and meeting up again with your father, Aunty Win and Judy. Our sister Gareth died suddenly 6 weeks ago, and I was speaking/emailing Jennifer about that, and so we reconnected recently. Cushla and I both hope to watch the livestream.
