I was very sad to read of Janie’s death. I knew Janie and Samuel when I worked at Wadestown School. Janie was always such a warm, pleasant person. She always remembered me when we met in the city and we would enjoy a chat. I extend my sincere sympathy to Janie’s loved ones at this sad time.

Dear John and Samuel, we are devastated to hear the sad news of Janie’s death. She was such a marvellous friend to Andrew, my late husband, and all our family from the early 1980s when we came to New Zealand. She was always interested in Jon’s latest doings and fashion sense (eating baked beans for breakfast wearing wooden mittens!). Janie was so patient, generous and loving. She will leave a huge hole in many people’s lives. Our love, condolences and prayers are with you.

It is very distressing to hear of Janie´s passing, I know she was the light for so many people. I will remember how wickedly funny and how very kind she was. When we were Camp Mother ( Janie) and Camp Leader (Sandy) at Castle Point school camp, I was constantly hustling those noisy and hungry mob of boys from under our feet in the kitchen and Janie would be slipping them chocolate bars. With that radiant smile of hers. Much love to you, John and Samuel.

Sending best wishes to Janie’s family and friends. I havent known Janie long (nearly a year) but I will miss her loving, caring and vibrant soul. We shared a few laughs and eyerolls on the Pilates mat (as you know Pilates was one of Janie’s passions) Janie, you have left a sudden and sad gap in our lives.

I was very saddened to hear of Janie’s passing. Janie was the linchpin our office life at the Conservation Sciences Center of DOC from around 1987 through the 1990s – known in our memory as the good old Tory Street Days. She efficiently looked after the mostly scientific staff through her hard work as the administration officer, but it was really her caring nature that contributed greatly to the family feeling of the building. Although she could be prim and proper, she also had a fun side and great sense of humour and was happy to join in on our famous dress-up morning tea parties. Although I did not keep very good contact in the years since, I consider Janie to have been a very important friend in my life. She will be sorely missed and I pass on my sincere condolences to John and the rest of Janie’s family.

Dear John and family,
We are saddened to learn of Janie’s passing and wish to extend Sheryl’s and my sincere condolences to you and your family. While we didn’t know Janie well, over the years we always enjoyed having a chat with her. We knew her as a kind-hearted and affable person, who had a nice sense of humour. Unfortunately I can’t be at Janie’s funeral as, unavoidably, I’m going to be away next week. Sheryl will attend.
With our thoughts and best wishes to you and your family.

I was so terribly sad to hear of Janie’s passing. She was such a kind, gentle and compassionate person – always happy to spend time chatting whether on the beach walking dogs or at a Pilates class. My sincere condolences to you both, John and Samuel.

John and Samuel. What a wonderful, loving, generous woman your wife/mum was. So many happy memories of her, over so many years. Her sharp slightly wicked sense of humour, her utter generosity of soul to everyone, always remembering what was happening in people’s lives and checking in. Samuel, the absolute joy when you came into her and your dad’s life, the tears of joy we shed, and the ensuing hilarious parenting conversations over the years. She was a major part of making DoC Science & Research the happy place it was to work, and quietly working behind the scenes to support people when situations got tough at work. My golly but I’ll miss her “Ahhh, Mrs Allen; ah, my dear Mrs Pickard”
Dixon flats
On behalf of the tenants committee of Dixon Street flats, we are all devastated by the news!
Janie was the pillar of the community café team, greeting with a warm smile and made cakes for tenants birthdays. our thoughts are with her family and community. especially husband and son. nothing will ever measure up to the faith Janie held with her and the support she gave others. Will be missed dearly 💔
