PELETON, Janis Mary (Jan)

Passed away peacefully on 3 August 2025, aged 94. Much loved mother of Philip, wife of Claude (dec), daughter of Molly and Lyndon, sister to Gillian, and beloved aunt to Andy, Pip, Jared, Cameron, Brooke, Daniel and Angus. Special thanks to the staff of Rita Angus Kilbirnie for their kindness and care. Viewing by appointment only at Lychgate Funeral Home, 306 Willis Street, Wgtn. Messages to the family may be left via the Lychgate website. A service to celebrate Jan’s wonderful life will be held at St Mary’s Anglican Church, 176 Karori Road, Karori at 11am, Monday 11^th August 2025, followed by a private cremation.

Richard Carey

A lovely warm lady, quietly helping so many and loved by many, with her cultivation, her French identity and her career accomplishments discreetly kept in the background, but an intrinsic part of her long life in which she found enjoyment every day.

Jan afforded a special home for our family in Burn Street on biennial visits from Paris over the decades before her close friend from Marsden days, Ann Harden, Prue’s sister, moved back from London to Karori. We then had a family home in Messines Road, and Jan and Ann a new shared Karori phase in their lives, a great joy to them both. With her French family connections and with Phil an enduring part of our friendship, Jan has been a very special part of our family world. We will miss her but we will remember her always.

Jan, I will always remember you so fondly and was so fortunate to stay with you in your wonderful home in Burns Street. You were such a very kind, patient and welcoming lady and also so very observant and astute. I treasure our conversations on French culture and politics in your lounge, sipping on our cups of tea, and was so very impressed by your beautiful command of the French language. Thank you for being my friend, I was very fortunate to get to know you. I am glad you had your son Philip with you.
Rest in peace dear Jan, the world needs many more people like you.
