Thank you Catherine for always being a kind, caring and welcoming face at Broderick Road playgroup for Noah and I. I loved chatting with you and hearing about your adventures. You will be missed.

Regretful not to be able to be with you all at the funeral, but very grateful to be able to watch remotely and remember a wonderful friend. I will always be grateful for Catherine’s example of faith. She was always so matter-of-fact about such things, but I’ve learned as I’ve got older that it was that way because she truly ‘knew Whom she had believed’. As my Sunday school teacher, she helped give me a grounding in the faith that has become my own. When I became an employee at the same organisation where she spent many years, she was always ready with advice and encouragement. I remember many a Sunday afternoon at the Fergusons’, chatting over a warming dessert, often handprinted and served with milk. I’m grateful for the legacy she leaves, the fact she’s now free and truly healed, and the promise of seeing her again.

It was good to be with you online from the other side of the world, and to share in the celebration of Catherine’s wonderful life of faith, fellowship and service. As a cousin – a fifth cousin, but that counts, especially to someone with Catherine’s genealogical interests! – visiting New Zealand from Ireland on several occasions, I received the warmest of welcomes. Several speakers mentioned that Catherine was “given to hospitality” (Romans 12: 13, in the King James version of the Bible … I had to look it up), a characteristic that I can thoroughly endorse. My thoughts and prayers were with all the extended family during the service, and will remain with you over the difficult days and weeks to come. We have great memories to sustain us.
