Jack,
It’s hard to put into words what you meant to me, because you weren’t just someone I worked alongside, you were someone who influenced and inspired me personally.
I’ll always remember your steady presence, your generosity with your knowledge, and the quiet way you lifted the people around you. You had a way of making things feel possible, even when they were complex or uncertain, and that’s something that stays with me!
I’m so grateful to have known you. You brought not just skill and insight, but warmth and integrity. You cared deeply about the work, about people, and about doing things properly, and that showed in everything you did.
You’ve left a mark that won’t fade, in the work we continue and in the way we carry ourselves forward.
Thank you, Jack. You’ll be deeply missed and always remembered.

My condolences and very best wishes to you all as you come to terms with Jack’s passing. May I share an insight of my own about Jack. I first met Jack when we were snowmen together at Scott Base. I was looking after radio communications for the NZ Post Office and he was doing something much more important – like looking after Scott’s Hut and showing Prince Edward around. It was a distinct pleasure to meet up with Jack again when I became associated with MAANZ as a SCUBA diver who liked visiting rusty stuff underwater, and then to find Jack on the surface – planning on how to look after it all. I feel that Jack is now being looked after by us now in our own way, and by someone far greater who cares for us all. May Jack rest in peace, but know that he will not be forgotten by his friends – he was too amazing a man to slide out of sight altogether. My love to you all. Rex Johnson, Cromwell.
