My sympathy to Dorothy’s family, I remember Dorothy with affection from her time at Anderson’s Bay Presbyterian church in Dunedin. Dorothy always had a thoughtful encouraging word to offer. I enjoyed being in her company & appreciated her wise counsel. You will all have lovely memories of happy family occasions, I hope they are a comfort at this sad time.

I was so sorry to see the Death Notice for Dorothy in the Otago Daily Times today. I first met Dorothy when I moved to Dunedin with my first husband in around 1976, I was working as a librarian at the Dunedin Teachers College and she came to work there. We developed a great friendship, we did a few local trips together. One memorable one where we drove up to Middlemarch to look for a crater which was on a farm it required a fair amount of walking and map reading but we found it, I go to Middlemarch regularly as my daughter has a holiday home there, so Dorothy is often in my mind. I kept in touch when she went back to being a Minister but lost touch when she moved North. I also remember conversations around the times spent in Singapore and with the Bain family. I loved her delightful sense of humour, her down to earth outlook on life and her joy in her chosen vocation. RIP Dorothy.

George and Marjorie Morrison

My sympathy to Dorothy’s family.
My wife, Marjorie, and I, George Morrison, were neighbours of the Manse at Waikaka Valley when Dorothy filled in during a vacancy. Marj and Dorothy “clicked” and Dorothy sat around our meal table many times.
When Dorothy was here we had a young cadet, David Ashby, working for us and Dorothy and David were hit by a car crossing the centre line as they returned from a Tramping Club meeting in Gore. Dorothy was rescued from her burning car by some of Gore’s “hoons”. Dorothy appreciated meeting one of them many years later on a visit to us, he was a totally reformed citizen.
Dorothy always enjoyed meeting and working with people on a practical level, had a great sense of humour and a ready laugh and honoured her calling in a down to earth style.
On behalf of the people of the Waikaka Valley Presbyterian Parish we can only say “Thank You” for Dorothy’s ministry and contribution to the district.
