Michael was a talented person of integrity, principle and wisdom. Our justice system was a huge beneficiary of these characteristics. He was fun to be with, and over the last 25 years I have played a lot of tennis, golf and snooker with him – he was always a gentlemanly sportsman. In recent times, as his health deteriorated, he showed he was also a person of courage .
To Yvonne and his family, my condolences and sympathy – I will miss him too.

My heart breaks at the news of Michaels passing. He was a dear friend and colleague. We worked together in the tribunals he was chair of. A true gentleman, principled and astute. It was an honour to work with him, and I really enjoyed the friendship we shared for years after work life. He used to tease me that my African humour would get me into trouble. It did and he took great delight in the rescue mission. You will be missed Judgie. Forever in my heart you have a place of honour.
Grace.

Dear Vicky, Anna & Pete.
Our thoughts are with you.
Dimi and I got to see Michael in Feb along with Yvonne for a quick catch up. He was in good spirts and we had a few laughs.
As the last to leave us, I remember the good times around Judith, Keith, your mum Sally, Michael, my dad and mother…….. the end of an era.
Take care they all left a legacy as we carry on.
All our love Jeremy, Dimi, Alexander and Oliver.

I have known Michael since we were at Canterbury University many years ago. I was at school with Sally and so happy when they married. They had children and were very happy. I last spoke to him on his birthday not so long ago Like you all I will miss him very much.

Pete, Vicky and Annabelle .
In 1974 Sally and Michael took me to Christs College sports week end to check the school out and see Jock compete, we stayed at the Clarendon Hotel. In the following years as we all grew up in Silverstream your father left a positive imprint in my memory . At Janet’s funeral I remember our conversation.
He always had kind words for me over the years . He was funny , interesting ,a great story teller with a special style all of his own . Occasionally I’m sure my cheekiness irritated him but it was only an effort to act as quick and clever as he was, he never showed displeasure. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I always thought he was a special guy.
Thank you all for sharing the lovely service online that celebrated his life.
My heart goes out to you and your families at this time. I shed tears and laughed along with you .
It might be some time since we were last together, but I’m grateful to have some of the best days with the Hobbs family. I though your old man was one of the great ones.

The Valentines were friends of the Hobbs family in Chatsworth Road and with Michael’s death something speciall comes to an end. I truly appreciate Michael’s support of Nicola over the years. Life has thrown him some curved balls, not the least being Sally’s decline, but he has remained dignified and engaged and must have been very proud of his children.
My heartfelt condolences to the family.
