Neil Plimmer

Dear Margaret,
I have the warmest of memories about John, and you have my full condolences over his passing. We go back to the 1980s when he was head of the DFC and I was head of the tourism department, and I have great memories of more recent times too. He will be widely missed. I am sorry that I cannot get to the funeral.
With best regards
Neil Plimmer

Dear Margaret, my heart sank as I read the notice of John’s passing and so my thoughts and prayers go out for you and the family. My next response was to start recalling our association. My first recollection of John was when he was head prefect at College and I was a mere third former but here was someone who we could clearly look up to, a leader in the truest sense of the term, setting the standard not just for a Wellington College boy but also laying down some standards that I continue to try and follow today.
Our next association was when I joined IBM and to my utter amazement and delight who should be my boss but John. At the time he was (Ithink) Financial Controller and I was heading up the internal IT team. Once again, his leadership shaped my emerging business skills. After about a year he said to me one day, we should be in marketing – that’s where you can really make it in IBM. And so, together, we transitioned into marketing which, for me, opened up a whole new world of business. I put the success I had in marketing down to John’s leadership and support.
After IBM our paths all to rarely crossed but I shall always be grateful for the formation John provided to my career.
May God bless you and the family in John’s passing
With love,
Tony Hassed

Good afternoon, Margaret, on behalf of my late twin brother Trevor and myself, I extend my sincere condolences for the passing of John.
We enjoyed each other’s company in our early lives, firstly in Khandallah, at the Onslow rugby and cricket clubs. Following that we were in the same years at Wellington College.
Lifelong memories, never forgotten.

Adrienne Lopdell

Yours sincerely, Adrienne.

Tone Borren

I have just learned that John Hunn’s funeral is this morning. My apologies I can’t make it there in time, I will watch the event. I shared a number of connections with John, although the 5 years or so on the Board of Cricket Wellington was probably our biggest association. I have a tremendous respect for John as a human being. I loved his leadership, his values and his insight. I am lucky to have known him.
RIP

Dear Margaret and Family

I was saddened to learn of John’s passing. He was a wonderful man for whom I had enormous respect. I was privileged to work for him as a client in both the DFC and Todd Corp days. I learned a great deal from him- integrity and professionalism personified, and with a great sense of humor. Margaret, I recall many happy evenings with you and John when Coopers & Lybrand sponsored the orchestra and set up the Dame Malvina Major scholarship. And Nick, I recall so often thinking how like John you were in the days when you worked at C & L. My deepest sympathies.

Unfortunately, I was unable to join the celebration of John’s life but was able to join the live screen.
A very nice service befitting John.
Having been involved in Welligton Cricket for over 60 years, on many occasions was involved with John on his work with Wellington Cricket ending when John finished as Chair of the Wellington Cricket Trust.
John’s contribution to Wellington Cricket over many years was extremely valued and I want to note that along with the contribution from you and the family especially when John had Presidential commitments at the Basin.
Kind regards
