Peacefully, surrounded by her family, on 5 January 2026, aged 89 years.

Very special wife of the late Don for 62 years. Dearly loved mum of Sharyn and David, Sandra and David, and loved grandmother of Nicholas, Daniel, Cameron, Sarah, Kate and their partners.

A special thanks to the team at Malvina Major Retirement Village for their loving care and support.

A funeral to celebrate Joy’s life will be held at 10.30am on Friday, 9 January at Lychgate Funerals, 7 Johnsonville Road, Johnsonville, followed by a private cremation.

To Joy’s family. I first met Joy at Waikanae Arts and Crafts, Embroidery group. Joy did exquisite pieces of embroidery, of which I am sure you have pieces gifted to you from her. Joy was extremely proud of her family, talking about them, especially Don. Joy was devastated when Don passed away, now she has been reunited with him and can be at peace. My husband Richard and I had the privilege of moving into Joy’s Charles Fleming Village townhouse. I have reminders of Joy when plants pop up in the garden that I know I didn’t put there. At the moment a beautiful blue bell flower is flowering by the letterbox.
Unfortunately I have a long standing medical appointment on Friday morning, so I will not be able to join you all at Joy’s farewell, but I do intend viewing it online when I get home. Thinking of you all. Maureen Starke.
