To the Family,
It is with great sadness to hear of Peter’s passing.
We came to know Peter in the turbulent years fighting apartheid.
Peter was a gifted writer with great respect and love for his family and social justice. All his family are a reflection of his wonderful qualities.
We are all the better for knowing Peter.
Love to you all,
Jill, Bernie and Dan O’Brien (Christchurch) and Steve (Canada).

A great journo, a great racontuer, a great person. Fantastic company. Huge stories. Huge sense of humour. Just a delightful bugger and a bloody great mentor. Oh, and early-morning starts in the smoking room were brilliant. Oh, and later at The Brit or Lovelocks. Colourful, funny, a great guy. Miss you, mate

Peter was an instant hit with both expatriate subeditors and local reporters when he arrived at the Post-Courier in Port Moresby 46 years ago. And he was handy when a beer needed to be drunk or a story told. From there came a deep friendship — and I also had the pleasure of employing Matthew as a subeditor years later in Melbourne.

Dear Janne and to all of Peter’s family,
I streamed Petet’s farewell today. And from Seattle, where he’d enjoyed some of his youth.
It was a caring tribute to my warm-hearted friend. An acknowledgement of the lovestory. Of Janne’s devotion. Of Peter’s wit.
