Inés Márquez passed away in the early hours of Wednesday 12 August 2026 after a life well lived. Inés was a brave, loving and creative person who came to Aotearoa New Zealand as a refugee and made a life here for her and her daughter Maribel in Christchurch and then in Wellington.
She was a pillar of the Latino community, a champion and role model for those who struggle for peace and justice. She will be missed by many whose lives she touched and uplifted.
Her loss is felt deeply by her daughter Maribel, son-in-law Rohan, and her two loving grandsons, Tomás and Diego. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Joseph’s Mt Victoria Church in Brougham St Mt Victoria on Saturday 15th of August at 10am.
