What is repatriation?
Repatriation is taking home the body or the ashes of someone who has died or been buried elsewhere. It might be returning someone to their marae, to their family plot or to the land of their birth. Repatriation can happen very soon after death, or when someone has been disinterred to be reburied in another place.
If you wish to be buried in the land of your birth, in a family plot or a particular cemetery is wise to write down your preferences and discuss this with family and close friends so that they are able to fulfill your final wishes.
