Tommy was a very loyal friend over many years, we first met in the Lambton Quay branch of the TAB – of all places. I was never sure of his education background in Ireland but he had a very colourful vocabulary.
We often shared old stories and he obviously had an eventful upbringing among his 14 siblings in difficult times. Tommy was very proud of his heritage, I could never get him to support the All Blacks, he was Irish through and through.
Tommy’s undoubted passion was horse racing where he became associated with so many enthusiasts in both North and South Island venues and Australia. He spoke fondly of his sponsorship to the galloping code at meetings in Hastings; Awapuni; Otaki; Trentham; Riccarton; and the West Coast/Marlborough circuit back in the day.
He was quite partial to a pint or two at any local bar in Wellington, he was a barman at Tramways in the six o’clock closing days; an accomplished pool player at the Railway Tavern, and an expert baker by trade after serving many years upon the high seas.
Tommy will be sorely missed, he was a character in his own right!
My condolences to Anne; Donald; Monique; Jamie; Samantha and Paul and Dolly.
RIP my friend.

Tommy was a lovable rogue with that mischievous smile, always seemed to be plotting something. Mark remembers a birthday of his, we went to visit Tommy with Anne and Don early morning and Tommy presented Mark with a bottle of beer that he had to drink (of course) to start his birthday celebration s. I remember going to see Tommy often with Anne and was always made to feel welcome. Tommy was very knowledgeable about alot of things especially his home City Wellington.
RIP Tommy you will be missed by your family and friends xx

Fond memories of a fellow Irishman from when he spent time in Levin in the mid – late 70’s. Have a photo of Paul and Ann in the beach buggy at Waitarere beach. Happy times. Enjoyed his company and laughter, R.I.P Tommy, it was good to have known you.
